1 month before Christmas
Entryway
Clean the door with a damp cloth
Wash the doormat
Keep all off-season items in the closet
Living room
Vacuum the room, including under and behind furniture
Clean all stains from furniture or carpets
If you plan to use a fireplace, schedule an on-site cleaning
Dining room
Remove stains from cutlery
Wash any table linen you plan to use
Polish the dining room table
Make sure you have enough chairs for your guests. Borrow or rent more if you need to

Let your neighbors know you’re expecting lots of guests – especially if they plan to park on the street. If you have overnight guests, find out if you need overnight parking permits for your cars. Nobody wants a parking ticket.

1 day before Christmas

Remove coats from the closet to make room for guests’ belongings

If you have a pet, store the toys somewhere.
